9 Ways to Deal With Remote Learning
By Kelsey Stone
In the midst of the back-to-school season, students, teachers, and parents are about to adapt to what may be the new normal. Of course, there are those encounters on the first day of school that leaves us anxious (new students, new faculty members, new challenging lessons), but no matter where you are going or who you’re around, everyone’s going through the trials and tribulations of online learning. Teachers across the country, whether they’re new or seasoned educators, are going through a challenging period of finding new ways to keep students engaged and productive in the first school year where it may be strictly remote learning. In times of uncertainty and an unstable job market, remote learning will bring out deeper issues within the classroom and our communities. From dealing with different learning styles to different economic backgrounds, remote learning can stress anyone out. Here are 9 ways to deal with it.
1). Practice with any piece of technology that you will be using.
2). Make your students feel comfortable.
3). Be patient and understanding.
4). Acknowledge not all students have privilege.
5). Accommodate for those who may not have the tools to learn.
6). It’s ok to be open and honest.
7). It’s ok to be scared.
8). Be vocal about your needs as a teacher or student.
9). Always remember you’re doing your best and you matter!
