As Chicago loses hospitals during a pandemic, there’s is hope for those who fear overcrowding and lack of resources. Northwestern Memorial Healthcare plans on expanding in the city and suburbs.
According to WBEZ, the Northwestern and smaller southwest suburban Palos Health have signed a preliminary agreement to affiliate, according to the health systems. Palos will be the 11th hospital in the Northwestern system, which stretches from downtown Chicago to DeKalb. Illinois regulators must approve the deal (of course). This comes at a great time after the recent news of the closing of Mercy Hospital in the Bronzeville area, along with three other hospitals on the South Side of Chicago, in predominately black areas. The closures have led to numerous protests and call outs on social media.
These closures of hospitals have also led to a major outcall for people to fill out the Census and the push for this upcoming election. Are you concerned about the health care centers in your neighborhoods?
