We were founded to make a space for LOVE on the Southside of Chicago.
A Multi-day festival welcoming event curators and performers from around the country.
OUR STORY
‘Open Season’ was hosted at the William Hill Gallery. This event was intended to jump start an initiative to create safe spaces for queer people on the Southside of Chicago.
As Lori Lightfoot became a serious contender for Mayor in 2018, organizers thought we needed to grow our footprint. Thus Pride South Side was born and organizing began in November of 2018. We hosted performers, vendors and guests from all over the city.
As a result of COVID-19, Pride South Side went online and created Pride South Side Studio. The platform produced content by LGBTQ artists. We were able to provide short term employment to creatives during the pandemic.
We expanded in 2021 and organized Freedom Summer, an event series that invited LGBTQ plus allies. We also organized Family & Friends, our 2021 installment of Pride South Side.
